Adolescence as a Developmental Milestone

This video, which describes a process for how we come to psychologically separate or individuate from our parents, identifies that this process can take place at any point during life. This gives hope to those of us who might have missed this process as "late bloomers” or for those of us who are coming to discover in mid-life that we have operated upon assumptions delivered to us by our parents and have not questioned these assumptions.

In some cultures, a process of individuation is frowned upon or against the cultural norm. For individuals of that culture, especially ones also living with America’s culture which prizes this kind of individuation, complex conflicts are likely to arise during this process.
